The Belgrade Pride Info Center on Friday reported a violent incident in its offices the previous evening.

A press release said that a man entered the offices, breaking furniture and other things and threatened staff. The man was escorted out by security guards and was arrested by a police patrol.

The Belgrade Pride Info Center called the authorities to condemn the latest attack and “clearly state that they are committed to fighting discrimination and protecting everyone including the LGBTI+ population from violence”. “This is the 13th attack on the Pride Info Center since 2018 when these offices were opened. According to Belgrade Pride information, none of the previous attacks were processed fully,” the press release said and warned that the LGBT+ community in Serbia was exposed to “systematic discrimination” including unsanctioned hate speech in public.

The press release called the authorities to provide guarantees of safety to the LGBTI+ community and the thousands of visitors expected to attend the EuroPride event in Belgrade in September.
