On Thursday evening, Serbia’s western Zlatibor district was affected by four major forest fires that affected nearly a hundred hectares of pine forest.

White, thick smoke was seen above Zlatibor, worrying many the fire could reach the houses.

Many firefighters and construction machines will be on duty for a few more days to stop fires from spreading to the surrounding houses.

About 20 firefighters localised Thursday’s fire, but due to the strong wind that will probably blow during the night, it is possible to flare up again.

At the same time, due to the increased number of fires, North Macedonia’s Government declared a state of emergency on the entire country’s territory for 30 days.

As of Wednesday, a complete ban on movement in forest areas in the entire country is in force, Radio Free Europe has reported.

According to the Crisis Management Center, hotspots of dozens of fires are in the eastern part of the country.
