Former state secretary at Serbia’s Interior Ministry, Dijana Hrkalovic, who organised crime prosecutors charged with trading in influence in two cases, said former Police Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic protected the criminal clan of Veljko Belivuk and “gained unauthorised insight into the content of telephone communications between Aleksandar Vucic and his family.”

She told the Objektiv news portal that Stefanovic asked for transcripts of conversations between President Vucic and members of his family to be delivered to him.

„He did not undertake the counter-intelligence protection of the president, nor did he inform the BIA that they should take measures,” she said.

Hrkalovic also accused Stefanovic of protecting the group of Belivuk which stands accused of five aggravated murders, kidnappings, torture, rape, drug sales and illegal possession of weapons.

“Belivuk’s clan was protected by no one but Nebojsa Stefanovic personally. He was protected until President Vucic found out about it,” she said, adding that Stefanovic did so “for his personal interests.”

After her interview, the union of police officers announced that it would file criminal charges against Hrkalovic, Stefanovic and other unidentified persons for abusing their position.

Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) official, Goran Vesic, said that he expects prosecutors to interrogate Stefanovic, who is now Serbia’s Defence Minister, as well as the other individuals mentioned in the interview.

Nebojsa Stefanovic said that Hrkalovic had placed a „new wave of lies“ against him, along with part of the „media machinery owned by Veljko Belivuk’s closest associate.“

He announced that he would respond to the accusations in the next 48 hours.
