European Parliament member Tanja Fajon said that neither the authorities nor the opposition in Serbia is completely satisfied with the dialogue on election rules, adding that this is good because each side will have to offer something to contribute to the normalisation of relations.
Speaking to Blic daily, Fajon said this does not mean that the election process will be perfect after the proposal by European Parliament mediators in the talks, but that this is a step towards better relations.
She also said that the inter-party dialogue mediated by the European Parliament is over and that the proposed document will not be negotiated again.
“In any case, European Parliament will be closely monitoring the developments and the way in which the agreement will be applied. The state of democracy in Serbia is not great, and the agreement is only the first step towards fair elections and a better democracy for the Serbian people,” she said.
According to her, it is up to Serbia to use this in the best possible way and obtain the trust of citizens in the election process.
“They deserve that. We are at their disposal for every assistance and guidance,” Fajon added.
