The Special Department for Organized Crime of the High Court in Belgrade ordered the pre-trial detention of up to 30 days for the former secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Dijana Hrkalovic, who stands accused of trading in influence.

Serbia’s President, Aleksandar Vucic, confirmed on Friday night that the police had arrested Hrkalovic, stating that it was based on evidence regarding the 2017 murder of Vlastimir Milosevic in Belgrade.

Veljko Belivuk, a major organised crime figure, was initially accused of the murder but was acquitted by the High Court in 2018.

Belivuk currently stands accused of being the leader of a criminal group that is charged with various criminal acts, including aggravated murders, kidnappings, drug dealing and illegal carrying and trafficking of weapons.

Abuse of office charges have also been filed against Dejan Milenkovic, the former head of the Special Investigation Methods Service, BIRN reported.
