Belgrade EuroPride organizer Goran Miletic said that 60 foreigners from the world of politics and NGO sector have confirmed their arrival in Belgrade for the September 17 event and that they believe the state will ensure their safety.

Miletic told the daily Danas that he cannot imagine that the police will “play dumb” and refuse to secure the event, and cautioned that something like this would be a scandal.

Having in mind the previous Constitutional Court and European Court decisions, the pride event cannot be banned, said Miletic.

“We will be out on the streets because the ban is illegal. Damage has already been done because the world is talking about a ban or postponement, whatever term is used, but it is linked to the state,” he said.

The only way to remedy the situation at least a little is for the pride event to be held and for the state, which is to provide a safe environment, to fully cooperate, said Miletic.
