EU hands more than 660,000 Euro in equipment to Serbian tourism industry

The European Union’s Ambassador in Belgrade presented the Serbian tourism industry with a gift of disinfectants and equipment worth 662,000 Euro on Tuesday.

EU Delegation chief Sem Fabrizi told the handover ceremony that tourist facilities will get a Clean and Safe certificate through the EuforYou – EU For Cultural Heritage and Tourism project. The certificates will guarantee safety in terms of hygiene during the coronavirus pandemic. He recalled that the EU provided assistance to the Serbian tourism industry to ehlp it promote the country’s cultural heritage before the pandemic.

German Ambassador Thomas Schieb said that the goal is to make Serbia’s heritage accessible to the public while Serbian European Integration Minister Jadranka Joksimovic said that a decision had been taken with the European Commission to provide an additional seven million Euro in grants to implement the program.

The latest aid provided by the EU for 600 tourism industry entrepreneurrs includes disinfection barriers and disinfectants, UV lamps, sprays, masks and gloves. The first contingent was sent to the towns of Kladovo, Donji Milanovac and Majdanpek and the rest of the equipment and disinfectants will be delivered to the Clear and Safe program participants in the next two weeks.

The EuforYou – EU For Cultural Heritage and Tourism project is worth 16.6 million Euro in grants to help renew the tourism industry in the lower Danube region.
