Environmental activists set up tents in the park in front of the Serbian Presidency building on Thursday evening, demanding a ban on the exploitation of lithium and borite anywhere in Serbia.
The activists said that they will remain in the tents until their demands are met.
One of the activists from the Jadar valley where Rio Tinto planned to open a lithium mine told N1 that the same things are being done in that part of western Serbia as before the government revoked a spatial plan for their project. He said that Rio Tinto bought another farm, 9 plots of farm land and forest after the Serbian government decided to ban its activities.
Savo Manojlovic from the Start Change Movement said that between 100 and 200 activists would be camping in the tents at any given time.
