The New Years Eve in Belgrade was spent without usual outdoor celebrations banned by anti-epidemic measures and with dozens of mainly older people walking through the city’s centre and gathering at the central Republic Square.
They celebrated with small fireworks and firecrackers, mainly wearing face masks.
Minutes after midnight, the people at the square, without face masks and physical distance, were joined by trumpeters
The police were present but did not separate the crowd.
The central Skadarska street, a favourite spot for the outdoor celebration was empty, while the communal militia patrolled the city.
Deputy Mayor Goran Vesic said all 400 cafes and restaurants checked by the patrols were closed after 6 pm on Thursday.
The Belgrade Emergency Service said they did not have any serious intervention during the night.
