Belgrade Deputy MayorGoran Vesic said that there were still hot spots at the city landfill in Vinca after the last fire, that the fire was completely localized and that firefighters are extinguishing the last of it.

Speaking for TV Pink he said that the fire at the city landfill came from the depth of the waste deposit, reaching up to 100 meters and that cameras of the company managing the landfill in Vinca recorded two unauthorized persons at that location just before the fire broke out.

„Whether it was an accidental or intentional, the investigation will determine that,“ Vesic stated.

The Deputy Mayor said that the landfill has been active since 1987, that an average of 1,500 to 1,600 tons of waste should be brought to it daily, and that the problem regarding it „will be solved by the end of the year“.

According to him, that will be achieved with the completion of the new landfill, as well as the construction of an energy plant that generates electricity by burning garbage.

He also announced that the city will procure 50 new stations measuring air pollution in the upcoming period.
