The Demostat public opinion research center said on Tuesday that the N1 portal was the most visited election news source in Serbia.

According to Demostat chief researcher Srecko Mihailovic 18 percent of the polled said N1 was their source of election news, Nova.rs scored 9 percent, the state TV (RTS) portal 8, Blic and Danas dailies 7 percent each.

He said that the RTS had the highest ratings, attracting 39 percent of the polled, the pro-regime stations TV Pink got 26 percent ratings, Prva TV got 25 percent, Happy TV got 16 percent.

Mihailovic said that in 28 percent of cases, people vote for parties because of their leaders. “In 21 percent of cases people vote for party programs and in 18 percent of cases they vote for the party that best represents the interests of the polled,” he said.

He said that the most frequent answer to the question why people don’t turn out to vote is the belief that their vote won’t change anything. “That view is shared by 45 percent of the polled and 14 percent said they don’t care who is in power,” he added.
