Belgrade daily Danas said on Monday that the route of the Pride Parade in September has been changed but remains in central Belgrade.
Pride Parades to date have all taken the same route through central Belgrade. The daily did not specify the source of the information about the new route which will be taken by Pride Parade marchers on September 17 who will gather at 5 pm in front of the Serbian parliament to walk past PrideHouse, Republic and Student squares and on to the PridePark in Kalemegdan fortress where a party will be organized, the daily said.
The Serbian police have informed organizers that they will provide full security for the Pride Parade.
A high-ranking member of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) called organizers and the government to cancel Europride. “If the people from Europride won’t cancel it, I would ask the state to consider canceling it because it’s senseless to create tension over a peripheral, idiotic topic… 90 percent of the people are against it and let’s not do something that has no support and never will in this society,” SNS Presidency member Vladimir Djukanovic told the pro-regime Happy TV.
Belgrade will host Europride this year from September 12 to 18, organizing a large number of events including debates, exhibitions and plays. A number of European Parliament members have said they will come to Belgrade for the event, among them Terry Reintke, Malte Gallee and Rasmus Andersen.
