The monitoring of the first part of the election campaign ahead of the April 3 vote in Serbia indicated numerous types of pressure and election corruption, CRTA observation mission's Tamara Brankovic told N1 on Thursday.

„Pressures include punishment, threats, attempts to shape people’s behaviour following the political environment,“ she said.

Brankovic added the threats and pressures were primarily existential, including the possibility of losing a job, social rights and assistance, penalties at work or other economic sanctions.

„We also recorded cases of physical pressure and verbal threats,“ Brankovic said.

According to her, on the other hand, rewards include promises of progress at work or a salary increase.

„There are also material compensations in money and some other gifts,“ Brankovic said.

She added that CRTA mainly worried about „some cases of privacy invasion. We have noticed attempts to control private life – from what you watch, what you read, who you drink coffee with and whether you show up at places acceptable in your community at the end of the day.“

Serbia holds presidential, early general and Belgrade elections on April 3.
