Epidemiologist Predrag Kon said on Tuesday that a state of emergency has no alternative, warning that the system will burst at the seams otherwise.
The Crisis Team doctor said that the medical staff on the pandemic Crisis Team want a lockdown adding that the measures in place over the previous weekend were far less strict than what they demanded. He explained that the demand was to shut down everything except food retailers, pharmacies and gas stations to break the transmission chain.
“All of society has to take responsibility. The medical staff know that this measure is an economic coup but one that protects lives and we have to say that openly in public. The proposal is to ban unprotected contacts or we will burst at the seams and that’s when we learn how the health care system breaks down,” Dr Kon said. “People have to understand that this is not a game,” he said and added that a small percentage of people are jeopardizing everyone else.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic told reporters in Sarajevo that he doesn’t think a state of emergency is coming but added that the government will decide about whether or not to impose it. “I won’t speculate, the government will decide,” he said. Vucic said that everyone is being irresponsible but that people are fed up and want to go back to work.
