The head of the main COVID hospital in Belgrade said that the number of new coronavirus patients is “rising drastically”.

Dr Tatjana Adzic Vukicevic told the Serbian state TV (RTS) that there are 150 patients in the Batajnica COVID hospital, adding that there were 50 patients a week earlier. According to her, 25 patients, including 15 on ventilators, are in intensive care ward 1, forcing the hospital to set up a second intensive care ward and three more semi-intensive care units.

The doctor said that the purpose-built hospital had 34 patients, including three in intensive care, six weeks ago.

She said that some of her hospital staff had not been vaccinated, which she said is unacceptable, adding that she would try to have them sent to other medical facilities and not work at the COVID hospital as of September 1.
