A Belgrade Appeals Court threw out an appeal by the REM electronic media watchdog over a lower court ruling in favor of the SBB cable operator, the Association of Journalists of Serbia (UNS) said on Friday.

The REM (Regulatory Body for Electronic Media) sued SBB claiming it broke the law on electronic media by placing its Nova S TV in front of the state TV (RTS) on its list of channels. The lower court ruled that SBB had every right to list channels in the order it wants because there were no regulations on the issue. UNS said that the appeals court said that SBB did not break any rules, law or the decree which orders the distribution of media content in a just, transparent and non-discriminatory manner.

“The Appeals Court ruled that the positioning of the RTS in the first slot is a practice which cannot be considered an obligation under the law,” the UNS said.
