CNN’s Clarissa Ward for N1: These are the dark ages of Myanmar

Over 700 civilians, including at least 44 children, have been killed in the crackdown across Myanmar since the military coup on 1 February. Countless more have been seriously injured and more than 2,600 are in detention, including many held incommunicado or forcibly disappeared.

One of the first international teams ever let in the country after the crackdown is CNN’s international correspondent Clarissa Ward with her crew.

Ward spoke to N1’s Ika Ferrer-Gotic on the latest from Myanmar and some of the toughest encounters she faced in Yangon, Myanmar.

“The military, they are not human! These words stayed with me.” – Ward recalled speaking to a group of civilians in Yangon. “At least ten of them were detained after they spoke to us, but we have managed to lobby freedom for five of them, with whom we are still in touch.”

Speaking to N1, Ward said she would go back to Myanmar, even though the situation was tense at times.
