Dozens of Chinese workers at the Ling Long construction site in Zrenjanin went on strike Tuesday, N1 learns from a number of sources.
The construction site of the future Ling Long tire factory in the city of Zrenjanin has been empty since Tuesday morning. According to unofficial information, the Chinese workers went on strike because the company has failed to pay their wages for months.
Several workers told N1 that a number of contractors have stopped working for Ling Long, also over unpaid dues, and that they have been told by the Chinese managers that Serbian workers will also be sent to work from home because the budget for the first construction phase has been exceeded.
Ling Long is already running late with the first phase. According to Serbia’s state leadership, the production of the first tires is expected in March.
