Outgoing Prime Minister Ana Brnabic denied claims that the Serbian authorities agreed to impose sanctions on Russia.

She told the Serbian state TV (RTS) that she “wants to deny … completely clearly and decisively that nothing has been promised or agreed”. “We are always telling the public the truth. The only stand at present is the stand of our Council for National Security and the government and that is that we are against introducing sanctions against Russia and that we respect the territorial integrity of Ukraine,” she said.

Brnabic said that Serbia’s principled stand is hard to defend but added that “this is being done every day because we are subjected to daily pressure”.

“International law is clear and the fact that the world powers use it in the way that suits them at a given time is another thing. International law defends us a country with a small territory,” she said.
