Actress Bojana Novakovic said on Friday that a number of public figures would speak and perform at the makeshift tent camp set up in front of the Serbian Presidency by environmental activists.
The tents were put up by a group of environmental organizations on Thursday demanding a ban on the mining of lithium and borite in Serbia.
Novakovic, a Serbian-Australian actress whose career has taken her to Hollywood, told the Beta news agency that day-long programs would be organized with public figures and farmers whose existence is being jeopardized by plans to open lithium and borite mines. She has been involved in the protests against the Rio Tinto company’s plans to mine lithium in western Serbia for months.
“Every citizen of Serbia, wherever they might live, is obliged to fight to protect the environment. I now have a break of a month and a half from a movie in Japan and I will spend that time in Serbia with environmental activists until we chase Rio Tinto out,” she said.
