Serbia’s capital wishes a hearty welcome to the European Commission (EC) President Ursula von der Leyen, expected in Belgrade later on Wednesday for a two-day visit.
The billboards reading ‘Herzlich Willkommen’ in the German language as Von der Leyen is from that country appeared across the city.
She is on a Western Balkan tour and will arrive in Belgrade from Pristina, where she has met Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani and Prime Minister Albin Kurti.
Von der Leyen’s visit comes ahead of the EU – Western Balkans Summit in Slovenia, currently presiding over the bloc, on October 6.
Ahead of her tour, the Brussels-based EUobserver website reported that an EU document had access to said the bloc might reconsider its visa-free regime for some Western Balkans countries due to increased abuse of the measure.
