A Belgrade court has ordered the editor in chief of a pro-authorities tabloid to pay fines to an opposition politician for slander.

The Higher Court ordered Informer editor Dragan J. Vucicevic to pay Dveri movement leader Bosko Obradovic fines of 80,000 and 60,000 Dinars (1 Euro – 118 Dinars) for alleging that he “ordered fierce attacks on President Aleksandar Vucic to give him a fatal heart attack” and for claiming that Obradovic “promised Americans at a secret meeting that he would recognize Kosovo if he comes to power”.

“Dragan J. Vucicevic has been proved to be a liar in the five law suits that I initiated,” Obradovic said after the ruling. “How many more rulings have to be handed down before it becomes clear to everyone that Informer is not an ordinary daily newspaper but the darkest propaganda tool of the ruling party which deals with political rivals of the authorities every day using every illegal means possible as this sentence has shown,” Obradovic said.
