Alleged Montenegrin drug smuggler arrested in Belgrade

A Montenegrin national alleged to be involved in smuggling more than 800 kilograms of cocaine was arrested in Belgrade on Wednesday.

Podgorica daily Pobjeda said that Damjan Vukasinovic (39) was part of a group that tried to smuggle 840 kilograms of cocaine into Portugal from the Caribbean. He was on an Interpol warrant. He is also wanted by the Montenegrin authorities on charges of drug smuggling.

The police said that Vukasinovic organized a criminal group in Montenegro in 2018, adding that the group was active in Croatia, Russia, Austria, the Caribbean, France and Portugal smuggling cocaine from South America to Europe. The Portuguese police intercepted the shipment of cocaine on a ship bought by the group in September 2018.
