Edi Rama, Albania’s Prime Minister, said on Friday he believed his country and Kosovo would unite and that he would vote for that but did not know when that would happen.

“If you ask me hypothetically about a peaceful referendum on the national unity, I would violate the law on voting secrecy and say loudly – I would vote for that. If you ask me whether that would happen, since you’re provoking me, that will happen one day, but I don’t know when,” Rama told a joint news conference with Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti.

Kurti, who had said he supported the unification with Albania several times, added that “precise dates and ways for such historical processes cannot be determined” in advance. “I think there is more lack of understanding rather than misunderstanding regarding the unification of the Albanians. It’s not a matter we chose; that’s a collective intention that chooses us,” Kurti said.

Rama told those who would understand his words as a call for the creation of a Greater Albania that “fortune tellers are not judged.”
