Russian ambassador says Lavrov will focus on bilateral relations, Kosovo

Russia’s Ambassador in Belgrade Alexander Botsan Harcenko said on Monday that Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will focus on Russia-Serbia relations, Kosovo and bilateral economic projects during his meetings with officials in Belgrade.

He told Vecernje Novosti daily that Lavrov and Serbian officials are expected to discuss the whole complex of relations between the two countries, compare views on topical regional and international issues with focus on the solutions for the Kosovo issue.

“Bilateral economic projects are on the agenda – the completion of the Serbian section of the Turkish Stream gas pipeline, the construction of complex facilities on the Belgrade-Novi Sad railway, modernization of the Djerdap 1 hydropower plant, setting up a center for nuclear science, technology and innovation,” the ambassador said.  

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is scheduled to visit Belgrade on Tuesday.

The ambassador said that Lavrov will will light the eternal fire at the cemetery of Soviet soldiers killed during the liberation of Belgrade in WW 2 using a torch lit at the tomb of the unknown soldier at the Kremlin. “The Ceremony will be held as part of the 75th anniversary of the victory over Nazism and will underscore the unfaltering unity of Russia and Serbia in preserving the memory of the liberation of our peoples and opposition to attempts to revise the history of WW 2,” he said, adding that Lavrov will also visit the St Sava Temple which he said was completed with aid from Russia and would pay his respects at the tomb of Serbian Orthodox Church Patriarch Irinej.
