Opposition calls for meeting with Serbian state TV, Radio

The opposition on Wednesday called for a meeting with the Serbian state broadcasters to improve freedom of the media in the country, the Nova Stranka party said.

The oppostion wants to meet with top officials in the Radio TV Serbia (RTS), Radio TV Vojvodina (RTV) and Radio Belgrade and called them to name a place and a date by November 10. The appeal was singed by the Nova Stranka, Movement of Free Citizens, Social Democrat Party, Democratic Party of Serbia, Green Party, One in 5 Million movement, Don’t Let Belgrade D(r)own Initiative, the Heart of the City movement and the Guardians of the Old City.

“The goal is to find a better solution in a democratic atmosphere, in open discussion with an exchange of views and improve election conditions, restore public trust in the broadcasters, take a step forward in the fight for freedom of the media and allow equal time for all active political players,” the appeal said. They said that they want to bring political pluralism back and allow the opposition air time along with criticial views on the public broadcasters.
