Prime Minister designate Ana Brnabic said on Friday that support to rural areas and agriculture will be a priority for the new Serbian government.
“We are in the middle of a pandemic which has shown how important it is to rely on our own resources and local food production. We reinforced agriculture in the previous period and Serbia had no food shortages even though demand was four to five times higher than usual,” Brnabic told a presentation of a national program for the rebirth of rural areas.
She said that there are also plans to invest more in science and know how for farming which includes digitalization and Internet access to keep young people on farms. Brnabic said that the government is giving young farmers 15,000 Euro to set up their households and is planning more similar aid for farmers and tourism in rural areas.
