Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Monday that Serbia is defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as international law and the fundamental principles of the United Nations as well as the authority of the Security Council.
Speaking on the 75th anniversary of the UN, Vucic said that the UN charter should be the constitution of the international community and should be the collection of basic principles governing international relations and processes.
“Unfortunately, at the end of the 20th century, we in Serbia experienced unilateral measures and activities which undermined and cast doubts on the efficiency of multilateralism and the mechanisms of international cooperation, as well as international law itself. The temporary institutions in Pristina declared independence unilaterally, violating UN SC Resolution 1244 and seriously undermining the security of Serbia and the region as a whole,” Vucic said in a video address to the UN General Assembly meeting at high level.
He said that this anniversary is an opportunity for the world to confirm its collective commitment to the principles of the UN charter.
