A senior member of the Serbian government pandemic Crisis Staff said on Monday that there is reason for optimism because fewer coronavirus patients require hospitalization than before.

Dr Darija Kisic Tepavcevic told the daily media conference that the number of confirmed cases is stable and the number of people tested high.

“We have parameters which are optimistic – increasingly fewer hospitalization requests, increasingly fewer patients reporting to COVID centers. We are at a crucial time, expecting the curve to turn downwards and we should find the strength and stick to all prevention measures and contribute together to putting it out,” she said.

Kisic Tepavcevic, deputy director of the Batut Public Health Institute, cited the example of the southern city of Nis where 117 people were tested and just one tested positive.

“We know what the situation was there not long ago and we are seeing a good outcome with strict adherence to the measure. We are expecting the numbers to drop but we can’t relax. We are giving our maximum now. The Crisis Staff had the support of the scientific community, a working group was formed by the ministry and is monitoring the results of research across the world and passing it on to us,” she said.
