Ivica Dacic, Serbia’s Foreign Minister, said on Tuesday Belgrade would demand that any solution to the Kosovo issue was verified in the widest international framework, “ideally within the United Nations, where China and Russia would have a say,” the Beta news agency reported.

Beijing and Moscow are permanent members of the UN Security Council which adopted the Resolution 1244 about Kosovo in 1999, remaining neutral on its final status.

Russia maintains it will support any solution which will satisfy Serbia.

Since “Moscow and Beijing do not recognise Kosovo’s independence, their view is fundamental for our struggle to preserve the state’s interests,” Dacic said, hours after Richard Grenell announced Belgrade – Pristina meeting at White House on June 27.

Dacic told the Belgrade Vecernje Novosti daily that “Serbia must get as wide as possible international legitimacy for a future solution to the Kosovo issue because only that will guarantee the fairness sand durability which we hope will be a result of a compromise and respect of our interest.”
