President Aleksandar Vucic said on Thursday night that Serbia achieved excellent results in combating the coronavirus pandemic, adding that the lives of the elderly had been saved.
“Imagine what would have happened if we had allowed our elderly had been allowed to be on the streets at the same time as young people when the epidemic was strongest. Imagine how many dead there would be, how many grieving families,” he said in a live appearance on the pro-government Happy TV.
He claimed to have been told by doctors that up to 10,000 people would have died. “In any case we did a good job,” the president said.
The president said he was proud that Serbia got aid form China and Russia, the EU, Norway, Israel and Hungary. “I would say from every continent and the USA,” he said.
Vucic said that the state of emergency was lifted at exactly the right moment, adding that another week would have been too late.
