Serbian PM says conditions in place to lift state of emergency

Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic told parliament on Wednesday that all the conditions are in place to lift the state of emergency declared to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

She said that there have been less than five percent of new coronavirus cases over the past seven days which, she added, is the most important condition to lift the state of emergency. Brnabic said that the World Health Organization (WHO) recommended the gradual easing of measures imposed to combat the pandemic once six conditions are met, adding that the Health Care Ministry has been informed of the conditions.

“The evidence shows that the transfer of COVID-19 is under control which we have done for more than seven days. The health care system has the capacity to identify, isolate, test and treat all cases and follow and quarantine all contacts which was luckily the case in Serbia from the first day and that has not changed,” she said.
