League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina leader Nenad Canak warned on Thursday that conflicts on the streets are possible if the law is not applied equally to everyone during the state of emergency.

Canak called the police to identify and arrest the people who organized gatherings with flaming torches in several places across Serbia in response to the noise protest against the authorities during the curfew.  Torches are used by hooligans as a show of force at sports events.

“How many of participants in the torch gatherings during the curfew in Novi Sad and Belgrade has the police identified? The Church has shown that it is stronger than the state so are (sport club) supporters showing the same now? How much time will it take before everyone banging on a pot gets a flaming torch shoved in their mouth,” Canak wrote on his Twitter account.

According to Canak, unless everyone is equal under the law, clashes will break out on the streets sooner or later. “When that happens and when we don’t know who killed who, that’s called civil war,” he warned.
