Protest during curfew in central Belgrade

N1

A local organization staged a protest in the central Belgrade neighborhood of Dorcol against construction work being done during the curfew imposed during the state of emergency.

The Komsije sa Dorcola (neighbors from Dorcol) organization has been opposing the construction of a streetcar network in that part of the Serbian capital since last November. The protest was organized because of construction work with heavy machinery being done at night over the past few days.

Local residents protested loudly from their windows the previous night and the police were sent out to stand guard over the construction crew, a press release said. The press release said that the authorities are refusing to protect the residents of that part of the city and are protecting the construction companies doing the work.

Earlier, organization activists managed to stop the work when it was being done during the day.

The press release said that the police directed complaints to the city Construction Inspection, adding that activists could not contact the inspectors.

No one was arrested during the street protest.
