The opposition Dosta Je Bilo (DjB) movement has filed criminal charges against Serbian Public Prosecutor Zagorka Dolovac and Constitutional Court President Snezana Markovic for failing to prevent top state bodies from violating the constitution by declaring a state of emergency.
A press release said that “they did not do perform their official duties to prevent the top state bodies and did not react to the unconstitutional declaration of a state of emergency”. President Aleksandar Vucic declared the state of emergency on March 15 with the backing of the parliament Speaker and Prime Minister to combat the coronavirus pandemic.
The DjB press release said that the state of emergency “suspended parliament, allowing one man to unconstitutionally take over the powers of parliament and practically executed a coup d’etat”. “The constitutional obligation of the Public Prosecutor and President of the Constitutional Court is to react and protect the constitutional order of the Republic of Serbia,” it added.
