Serbian Mining and Energy Minister Aleksandar Antic said on Tuesday that production at the Chinese-owned Zijin mines in Bor and Majdanpek was 21 percent higher in the first quarter of the year than in the same period of 2019.

“We expect the trend to continue to the end of the year. Even during the state of emergency, Zijin is realizing its investment and we expect it to give a strong contribution to the recovery of our economy to minimize the effects of the pandemic,” Antic said during a visit to the mines in the town of Bor in eastern Serbia.

The minister said that the Cerovo 2 mine will be opened soon with the first ore expected to come out of it later this year. “This is a 35 million Dollar investment which will secure an annual production of 2.5 million tons of ore,” he said.

Antic also visited the Veliki Krivalj and Cukaru Peki mines. He said that 474 million Dollars will be invested in those mines.
