Galenika makes COVID-19 drug for Serbian government

The Belgrade-based pharmaceuticals company Galenika said on Tuesday that it had produced 372,000 hydroxychloroquine sulfate tablets and put them at the disposal of the Serbian government.

Hydroxychloroquine sulfate tablets are used to treat coronavirus patients. The stockpile produced by Galenika is worth 400,000 Euro and will be handed over to the the Serbian Health Fund.  

Galenika Belgrade CEO Ricardo Vian Marques said that the company is investing effort to secure supplies in continuity. “The production and donation of the hydroxychloroquine sulfate tablets is our contribution to aid the efforts of the Serbian health care system,” he said.

The technology to make the medication at Galenika was provided by its parent company the Brazilian EMS. The press release said the EMS started clinical trials for the treatment of COVID-19 patients.
