A private company will manage the European Union’s biggest environmental donation to Serbia instead of a state company, the Vojvodina Investigative Analytical Center (VOICE) said on Thursday.

The donation was made to the municipalities of Vrbas and Kula which signed a contract with the EU in November 2018 to form a joint communal services company to manage a waste water purification facility. The Belgrade-based private company Veolia Water Solutions and Technologies (VWST) which has 12 employees was awarded the job in negotiations not a public tender.

The Vrbas municipal authorities will cover the costs of fuel, chemicals, sanitation and the payment of experts to VWST, VOICE said.
