The Mayor of Paracin Sasa Paunovic said that no decision has been taken about a possible boycott of local elections in that opposition-ruled town.

He told Belgrade daily Blic that opinions are divided about the coming local elections. “Some people are seeing things from our local angle and they know that elections in two municipalities mean nothing. To others, the most important thing is the pure idea that this is not about living people and fates,” Paunovic said. He added that the boycott issue had been discussed in Paracin and other places in August 2019 when the boycott was just intended to win better election conditions.

“Not everyone in this wide alliance (the opposition Alliance for Serbia) is a relevant decision maker and that is why some people are surprised. I am resigned but not surprised… That battle for a boycott and later changes will not be decided on two percent of the total electorate. The opposition can do without two or three local communities,” the deputy leader of the Democratic Party said.
