The Lawyer Committee for Human Rights (YUCOM) study showed that the general confidence in Serbia’s Ombudsman had been falling since 2016, the Beta news agency reported on Friday.

Milan Filipovic from YUCOM, told the “Ombudsman in the Context of European Integrations” conference, says the number of solved cases is reduced, a bulk is being moved from one year to another, while the number of employees is rising.“

He adds that there are many dismissed cases due to the lack of jurisdiction. “Ombudsman protects people’s rights; he is not the protector of citizens in general,” Filipovic said.

The numbers of solved cases dropped from 78 in 2016 to 39 in 2018.
