Palmer: US’ strong support of Skopje for NATO and Euro-integrations

Matthew Palmer, the US’s special envoy for the Western Balkans, said on Tuesday in Skopje to confirm and strengthen Washington’s firm support of North Macedonia and its Euro-Atlantic road and perspectives, the Radio Free Europe (RFE) reported.

After meeting the country’s Foreign Minister Nikola Dimitrov, Palmer said he came for the ratification of the NATO membership.

North Macedonia is scheduled to join the Alliance in December, but the European Council has failed to set a date for the opening the accession talks with Skopje, prompting an early election in the country.

Dimitrov said the talks focused on NATO membership and on the importance of opening the European chapter as well.

After Skopje, Palmer, who also met with North Macedonia’s President Stevo Pendarovski, is scheduled to visit Pristina, Belgrade and Athens.
