Belgrade’s taxi drivers will expand their protests next week to block off approaches to the city’s bridges unless their demands are met, a spokesman for the Contractual Economic Taxi Chamber said on Monday.
The taxi drivers are protesting against the CarGo company, claiming that it is operating in violation of the law and as unfair competition to them.
Spokesman Bosko Vukojevic added that the protests will start at 2:00 pm and end at 5:00 pm every day. “Next week we will block more streets and get closer to the bridges,” he said. Vukojevic said the taxi drivers did not want to discuss the solution offered by CarGo (a mobile application, high salaries and financial assistance to pay their overdue taxes).
Taxi drivers staged Monday’s protest along the same routes that they took last week, ending up in front of the Serbian government headquarters. They said they would not go ahead with the more radical protests because of the visit by Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
