The government has done everything it said it will do to improve electoral conditions in Serbia, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said on Saturday after she met with representatives of the working group on improving electoral conditions, chaired by Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic.

Stefanovic said that all the changes that have to pass the parliamentary procedure will do so soon.

„We want this to be the best and most transparent electoral process so far. We have done a lot, primarily on the electoral rolls,” Brnabic said at a press conference.

“It is important for citizens to know how much we care to do everything we can to improve the overall electoral environment and make it much better than what it was like until now when those who adopted the laws are now asking for them to be changed,” she said.

The Prime Minister launched talks with the OSCE on the issue back in 2017, Stefanovic said.

„This did not start yesterday, or because somebody is asking it of us today by pressuring us, we started the talks in 2017, wishing we had a better legal framework and better standards that will allow citizens to completely trust the electoral process,“ he added.

He announced that the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) will have a task in November to define what the monitoring mission and its competencies will be and that it will then begin its work during the pre-election campaign.

„I expect that changes to three laws we discussed, which we forwarded to the Assembly, will be on the agenda at the next government session,” he said, adding he hopes they will be adopted.
