Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said on Friday that at least five countries will suspend their recognition of Kosovo this year.

“I can say with great certainty that at least five countries will suspend their recognition of Kosovo by the end of the year,” Dacic told the Serbian state TV (RTS) after attending the UN General Assembly in New York.

According to him, one of the goals of the Serbian delegation at the UN General Assembly was to meet with officials of countries that have recognized Kosovo to convince them to review their decisions.

“The effects of our stay here are great. It’s clear to everyone that Serbia has strengthened its reputation and international position. President (Aleksandar) Vucic’s speech was received very well. We had a series of meeting with the most important countries and that is of great importance in strengthening our international position,” the minister said adding that they had an average of 25-30 meetings a day at the UN headquarters.

He said that one of the goals was to convince the countries that haven’t recognized Kosovo to remain firm in their stand and added that Serbian officials received assurances to that effect. “Every meeting also discussed Interpol and we are sure that Kosovo stands no chance of becoming a member at the Interpol meeting in Chile,” Dacic said.
