The 42nd weekly 1 in 5 Million protest in Belgrade started on the plateau between the Belgrade University Rectorate and School of Philosophy and was devoted by organizers to the struggle for the dignity of the university.

Organizers said the struggle for the honor of Belgrade University began more than a week ago when a group of student activists of the 1 in 5 Million organization locked themselves into the Rectorate and made a number of demands, including a demand for Rector Ivanka Popovic to request the dismissal of Finance Minister Sinisa Mali whose doctoral thesis is alleged to have been plagiarized.

“Students began the blockade of the Rectorate last Friday and have been fighting not only for the honor of the University but also for all the citizens of Serbia who have been fighting to preserve freedom and democracy and the institutions of Serbia,” organizers said.

Some of the banners carried by the protesters include – (Serbian President Aleksandar) Vucic will never allow free and fair elections, Boycott and Wake up Serbia.

The protesters marched through the streets of central Belgrade (across the newly-reconstructed Republic Square which is undergoing repairs) and back to the Rectorate building.
