Serbian European Integration Minister Jadranka Joksimovic said on Thursday that the government does not need to invited the OSCE to send observers yet because the elections won’t be held before next spring.
“The elections won’t happen before next spring. I don’t think there’s any need to officially invite the OSCE at this moment. That could be done now. I don’t think it will be late even though we still haven’t sent an official letter. Serbia is a front runner for membership in the European Union and one of the first lessons you have to learn are fair elections,” the minister said.
Joksimovic said that the Serbian government has been working with the OSCE to improve the election process for several years, adding that OSCE recommendations have been implemented.
She said the conditions for free and fair elections exist in Serbia but could be even better.
