A party once headed by a murdered Kosovo Serb opposition leader is set to join the Serb List for the October 6 elections, the Beta news agency reported on Thursday.

The Civic Initiative SDP, once headed by the murdered Oliver Ivanovic, said in a statement that it would field candidates at the coming parliamentary elections “with the other political options on the ticket Serb List – Aleksandar Vucic”.

The statement said the decision was taken because “the Kosovo Serbs need unity and the support of the Serbian state to survive and preserve their state and national interests”.

The Civic Initiative SDP’s Marko Jaksic spoke out against the decision saying that he would be “ashamed of the people in the organization and the late (Oliver) Ivanovic. He wrote on his Facebook pages that he had quit the Initiative because he does not want to be linked to certain people or political options.

The Civic Initiative SDP was formed by Oliver Ivanovic who was gunned down in front of his party offices in the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica on January 16, 2018. The murder of the Kosovo Serb opposition leader has not been solved yet.
