CoE and Serbia to improve cooperation

Tobias Flessenkemper, the Council of Europe (CoE) Head of the Belgrade Office and Jadranka Joksimovic, Serbia’s Minister of European Integration discuss on Wednesday the implementation of the CoE recommendations and Serbia’s European Union accession process, the Beta news agency reported.

Joksimovic thanked the CoE for its help to Serbia’s reforms, especially in the public administration, judiciary, human rights and strengthening the democratic norms and standards, a statement fro the Government said.

Flessenkemper confirmed that CoE would further assist in the development of the rule of law most essential aspects.

The statement quoted him as saying that Serbia was one of the CoE most active members and that Belgrade was committed to reforms, especially the rule of law and human rights.

Joksimovic said that Serbia and the CoE had excellent cooperation in the last 16 years for how long Belgrade has been the Council’s member,  but that there was room for strengthening it further.

She added that 53 percent of Serbia’s people “are of a pro-European affiliation,” while 68 percent supported reforms, notably those related to the rule of law.
