The Serbian National Bank (NBS) has lowered its key policy rate from 2.75 to 2.5 percent, the NBS said in a press release on Thursday.

“The NBS is supporting credit and economic growth by lowering the key policy rate to a new, lowest level in the targeted inflation regime,” the press release said after a meeting of the NBS Executive Board.

The NBS Executive Board decided to lower the key policy rate because of favorable domestic macro-economic conditions and the slowing down of global trade and economic growth and the increasing clear signals and measures to ease monetary policy implemented by leading central banks, it added.

The NBS expects Serbia’s economic growth to be led by domestic demand, investments and expenditure with foreign direct investments helping reduce the external imbalance in the medium term.

The NBS Executive Board is scheduled to meet again on September 12 to decide on the key policy rate.
