Serbian plum farmers fear low prices

Fruit farmers in Serbia said their plum crop is good this year but are afraid that the purchase prices won’t cover their costs because exports to Russia have stopped.

The Association of Plum Growers in Blace told N1 that it’s clear that the halt in exports to Russia has affected prices which now stand at 10 Dinars a kilogram (1 Euro – 118 Dinars). A large part of the plum crop was exported to Russia over the past few years.

The Serbian Chamber of Commerce denied any knowledge of a break in those exports, claiming that plums were being purchased for 50 Dinars a kilogram in the Valjevo area and adding that the final prices won’t be known until the late crop comes in because it is the most sought after at home and abroad.
